Surviving the Unreal University
posted by Robert "Orpheus" Headley @ 18:00:08 | Category: Unreal Powered
Well. I got back today from my trip to Unreal University and to be frank.. I feel educated. I drove there along with a friend of mine, who picked me up in Indiana on his way from Minnesota and other than getting lost in the Appalachian Mountains for 3 hours and being incredibly tired after the trip it wasn't a bad journey. I attended some of the tutorials on the first day, mostly level design stuff, because I am not going to kid myself about my ability to program, I felt that I learn a thing or two about UnrealED tho I do have experience from the old days of Unreal. The real reason for me to go to Unreal University tho was just to meet all the people involved. I feel a deep love *thats right, I'm not affraid to admit it" for the Unreal community as a whole and I felt compelled to attend for that reason. Oh, and playing UT2k4 doesn't hurt either. Speaking of UT2k4 the game was looking awesome. Other than the mildy annoying voice synthesis that relays everything said into MSagent voice synth, which got annoying when people spammed things like dodododododod or other incoherencies like the (colon p) that CliffyB mentioned during the roundtable. Speaking of the roundtable it was rather a highlight of my two days there as everyone got to ask Epic questions. Which was great. I would like to thank, Epic, Scion, Atari, AMD, Nvidia and of course NC state for putting on this excellant shindig and I hope to see more like it in the future.

Preview of Advent Rising
posted by Robert "Orpheus" Headley @ 11:53:24 | Category: Unreal Powered
I noticed that TotalVideoGames has a preview/first impression of Advent Rising by GlyphX. Heres a sample

Publisher Majesco already has an impressive list of games scheduled for 2004 and that has recently been further strengthened with Advent Rising, the first in a trilogy of games for the Xbox and PC. Featuring an unprecedented collaboration between interactive entertainment and science fiction writing. Famed novelist, Orson Scott Card, will embellish on the gripping storyline behind Advent Rising, and will author a novel based on the game. Derek dela Fuente spoke with Kevin Brannan, Product Marketing Manager at Majesco, US, to hear more about this exciting game.

Boot-able America
posted by Robert "Orpheus" Headley @ 11:38:40 | Category: Unreal Powered
I noticed on Slashdot that a company called Super Computer Inc. (SCI) has created a bootable 64 bit distro of linux called Gamestorm that can be used to instantly boot into games and none other than the Unreal Engine Powered America's Army has been the first game to be ported! You can check out the full story here at Linux Devices.
Sorry for the lack of updates.
